How will changes in shopping requirements affect logistics?

Robert Fildes was a member of a Guardian roundtable discussion of the dramatic changes in both the high street and the internet and how retailers and logistics companies must adapt to increasing demands from customers. 

The roundtable was sponsored by Hermes logistics and included panel members from sectors including retail and academia, as well as delivery companies. Increasingly, internet  shopping is just one element of a retailer’s offerings with ‘bricks-and-clicks’ the preferred option for many shoppers. But how do consumers choose between the variety of retail offerings and how do these choices affect logistics companies faced with increasingly narrow service windows? That’s where forecasting, both longer term strategic and short term operational comes in.
